Six Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs move towards Shinde camp; Bid to form separate group

Mumbai, June 17 (UNI) Maharashtra politics witnessed fresh upheaval on Wednesday following reports that six of the nine Shiv Sena (UBT) Lok Sabha MPs have formed a separate group in Parliament and are preparing to merge with the Shiv Sena faction led by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
Political circles have referred to the political manoeuvring as "Operation Tiger", with developments expected to peak around June 19, the Shinde Sena's foundation day.
According to reports, the six MPs have submitted a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla seeking recognition as a separate parliamentary bloc. The MPs named in reports are Sanjay Deshmukh, Sanjay Dina Patil, Sanjay Jadhav, Nagesh Ashtikar, Omraje Nimbalkar and Bhausaheb Waghchowre. With six of the party's nine Lok Sabha members reportedly supporting the move, the group meets the two-thirds threshold prescribed under anti-defection provisions.
