Six LCA Mk1A Aircraft Ready, 18-24 Expected by End of 2026: Defence Sources

New Delhi, June 9 (UNI) Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reviewed the progress of the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Mk1A programme and directed Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to adhere to delivery schedules while addressing the remaining operational requirements of the Indian Air Force (IAF).
Sources said the Defence Minister, on Monday, assessed the status of the indigenous fighter aircraft programme, which is considered a cornerstone of India's drive towards self-reliance in defence manufacturing. During the review, officials briefed him on production milestones achieved so far as well as the challenges that have contributed to delays in deliveries.
According to sources, six LCA Mk1A aircraft fitted with engines are currently ready. The Defence Ministry expects the number of completed aircraft to rise to between 18 and 24 by the end of 2026, provided HAL successfully resolves the outstanding Air Staff Qualitative Requirements (ASQRs) identified by the Air Force.
