Yadgir (Karnataka), April 17 (UNI) Six people were killed after a head-on collision between a car and a private bus near Devapur in Yadgir district on Friday. The car was completely gutted after catching fire.
According to police, the impact of the collision triggered a massive blaze that engulfed both vehicles almost immediately, leaving the car occupants trapped inside with no chance of escape. All six persons travelling in the car were burnt to death at the spot.
The car was travelling from Yadgir towards Raichur, while the private bus was heading from Bengaluru to Kalaburagi when the accident occurred near Devapur in Surpur taluk.
Local residents and passersby rushed to the scene and assisted emergency response teams. Fire and emergency services personnel managed to douse the flames after reaching the spot, while police cordoned off the area and began preliminary investigations.
Reports indicate that a few occupants of the bus were rescued safely. Some survivors were shifted to nearby hospitals for observation and treatment.
Police sources said the severity of the crash caused both vehicles to burst into flames within seconds, making rescue efforts extremely difficult. Authorities are also examining whether overspeeding or road conditions contributed to the accident.
The Yadgir Superintendent of Police visited the site and supervised rescue and investigation work, while arrangements were made to shift the bodies for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
