Sinlung Hills Council to witness triangular contest in upcoming polls

Aizawl, Oct 8(UNI) The second election to the 12-member Sinlung Hills Council (SHC), located along the Manipur and Assam borders, scheduled to take place on November 5 is likely to witness a triangular contest, with the BJP expected to stay out of the fray.
The Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) announced on Tuesday that it will contest all 12 seats, announcing the names of its candidates at a function held at the Congress Bhavan in Aizawl. MPCC President Lal Thanzara declared the names of the party nominees.
Meanwhile, the ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) has entered into a pre-poll alliance with the Hmar People’s Convention (HPC), with the ZPM fielding candidates in 8 seats and the HPC contesting the remaining 4. The Mizo National Front (MNF), another major player, has put forward 12 candidates, two of whom are believed to be associated with the HPC (Reformed), a faction of the HPC.
