Singhvi, Chaturvedi criticise Delhi sports infrastructure amid India Open 2026 concerns

New Delhi, Jan 16 (UNI) Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi and Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi on Friday criticised the state of sports infrastructure and governance in the national capital, following reports of concerns raised by international players at the ongoing India Open 2026 badminton tournament in Delhi.
Reacting to the situation, Singhvi took to X to underline the gap between ambition and execution in Indian sport. “If we want to host the world, we must stop embarrassing ourselves before it. World-class sport needs world-class governance, not jugaad,” he wrote, calling for "systemic reforms" rather than ad-hoc arrangements.
Chaturvedi, meanwhile, highlighted specific incidents reported during the tournament at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex. In her post on X, she pointed to bird droppings interrupting matches, monkeys being sighted in the spectator stands, and growing concerns among players over air quality and infrastructure.
