Siddaramaiah backs DMK in denouncing Centre's delimitation move

Bengaluru, Mar 12 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday voiced strong opposition to the proposed delimitation of Parliamentary constituencies, aligning with the DMK-led opposition and condemning the Centre’s move as a threat to democracy and federalism.
Meeting a delegation of DMK leaders at his official residence Cauvery, Siddaramaiah criticised the alleged attempt to weaken the representation of southern states. Tamil Nadu Forest Minister K Ponmudi and Rajya Sabha MP Mohammed Abdullah Ismail apprised him of the growing dissent over what they called the "anti-democratic and anti-southern stance" of the Union government, a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said.
In a significant development, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin also spoke to Siddaramaiah over the phone, reinforcing the need for a united front. "Karnataka stands firmly with the southern states in resisting this move. We will not allow the Centre to dilute our democratic rights," Siddaramaiah asserted.
