Shivakumar unveils 500-km Metro blueprint

Bengaluru, July 17 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Friday unveiled an ambitious blueprint to expand Bengaluru's Namma Metro network to nearly 500 km over the next decade, signalling one of India's largest urban transport expansion programmes aimed at transforming mobility in the country's technology capital.
The proposed expansion, part of a broader infrastructure push worth over Rs one lakh crore, seeks to decongest Bengaluru's traffic-choked roads by extending metro connectivity to emerging residential, industrial and IT corridors while integrating the network with major road and transport projects.
Addressing an infrastructure event, Shivakumar said the government was committed to building a world-class public transport system capable of meeting the demands of Bengaluru's rapidly growing population and economy.
