Shivakumar's leadership remarks stir Cong power dynamics debate

Bengaluru, May 21 (UNI) Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar's comments have reignited discussions about the ongoing leadership dynamics between him and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
During a felicitation event held by the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) here on Tuesday, he highlighted the Congress party's success under his leadership, stating, "During my four-year tenure as President of Karnataka Congress, it is noteworthy that the party achieved power under my leadership."
Shivakumar's remarks have brought renewed attention to the delicate balance of power between the state's top leaders, hinting at potential underlying tensions.
Addressing party workers, the Deputy CM expressed uncertainty about the duration of his presidency at the KPCC.
He urged grassroots organisation, stating, "First, organise the party at the booth level. Ensure a lead at the booth level, and then ask for leadership roles. Otherwise, you won't get the opportunity. Simply wearing white clothes and getting out of white cars does not qualify one for any position. Organize or vacate. New leadership will be groomed if you fail."
Highlighting a significant tribute, Shivakumar mentioned that, following the directives of Sonia Gandhi, a granite stone from Kanakapura has been placed at the site where the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi lost his life in Tamil Nadu.
Additionally, he noted the replacement and inauguration of Rajiv Gandhi's statue in Bengaluru by AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge.
A moment of tension arose during the Anti-Terrorism Day oath-taking ceremony at Vidhana Soudha, commemorating the 33rd death anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi. Siddaramaiah lost his cool when informed by his Personal Secretary, Venkateshaiah, about Shivakumar's delayed arrival.
Determined to maintain the schedule, Siddaramaiah insisted that the programme commences without further delay. He instructed Chief Secretary Rajneesh Goyal to begin the ceremony, asserting that Shivakumar could join later.
Siddaramaiah proceeded to administer the oath to the staff and officers before departing to Mangaluru for another event.
