Shiv Sena's campaign against illegal liquor leads to major crackdown in Pune district

Pune, June 12 (UNI) In the wake of the recent tragic deaths and illnesses caused by the consumption of methanol-laced illicit country liquor in the Phugewadi, Dapodi and Hadapsar-Kalepadal areas, the Maharashtra Excise Department has launched crackdown against illegal liquor operations across Pune district.
The action comes after Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde group) mounted a strong campaign demanding stringent measures against liquor mafias endangering public lives. Shiv Sena Pune city chief Promod Nana Bhangire had publicly warned authorities to dismantle the network of illegal liquor traders and ensure strict punishment for those responsible.
The methanol poisoning incident claimed several lives and left many families devastated, triggering widespread public outrage. In response, Shiv Sena intensified its agitation, moving beyond formal representations and launching direct public protests against the illicit liquor trade.
