Sharad Pawar slams state govt over forced contribution from sugarcane farmers

Pune Oct 5 (UNI) Nationalist Congress Party ( NCP-SP) Supremo Sharad Pawar today accused the Maharashtra government of demanding large sums from sugarcane farmers for the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, even as these farmers are reeling under heavy rainfall and flood-related losses.
Pawar called the move unjust and insensitive, saying that collecting money forcefully from distressed farmers is “highly inappropriate.”
The veteran leader said he would discuss the issue with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and appeal for a reconsideration of the decision. A meeting of sugar factory representatives has been convened to review the damage caused by the heavy rains and explore ways to secure assistance from both state and central governments, Pawar said.
