Shanta Kumar regrets politicisation of Virbhadra Singh statue event

Palampur, Oct 14 (UNI) Former Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Shanta Kumar has expressed deep sorrow over the unveiling of the statue of late Virbhadra Singh at Ridge Ground, Shimla. Speaking to media persons, Kumar said he was saddened that a Congress leader's statue was unveiled at the Ridge, an act he felt was inappropriate for the state's political legacy.
"I am deeply pained by this development. My heart feels heavy today," said Kumar. He added that while he has always respected Singh's contribution to Himachal Pradesh's development, the Congress party's decision to politicise the event was regrettable.
"Virbhadra Singh was elected as Chief Minister six times, and his role in building the state cannot be denied," he said. He alleged that by organising the statue unveiling in this manner, the Congress had attempted to use his memory for political gain. He felt it would have been appropriate if leaders from all parties were invited to such a solemn occasion.
