Shafali, Deepti star as India set 299 target in WWC final

Navi Mumbai, Nov 2 (UNI) India Women produced a stirring batting performance in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 final, compiling 298 for seven in their allotted 50 overs against South Africa at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy here tonight. It was an innings marked by composure, class, and a touch of flair — the kind that lifts a team’s belief on the grandest stage.
After being put in to bat, openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma set the tone in commanding fashion. Shafali, fearless and fluent, took the attack to the bowlers from the outset, while Mandhana provided poise at the other end. Together, they stitched a century opening stand worth 104 runs that laid a solid platform for India.
Mandhana’s 45 off 58 balls was filled with crisp drives and elegant cuts, but it was Shafali who stole the show. The young opener played with maturity beyond her years, striking seven boundaries and two sixes in a fluent 87 off 78 balls.
