Severe cyclonic storm over BoB will have no  direct impact  in Odisha : IMD

Bhubaneswar, May 24 (UNI) Several parts of North Odisha will experience light to moderate rainfall as depression over central Bay of Bengal is very likely to intensify further into a cyclonic storm by Saturday, IMD sources said.
It said some places in Balasore, Bhadrak and Kendrapara will also witness heavy to very heavy rainfall and ruled out that the severe cyclonic storm will have no direct impact in Odisha.
MET source said the depression over central Bay of Bengal moved northeast wards with a speed of 20 kmph during the past few hours and is very likely to continue to move northeast wards and intensify further into a cyclonic storm over eastcentral Bay of Bengal by May 25 morning.
Subsequently, it would move nearly northwards, intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by tomorrow night and likely to cross Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coasts between Sagar Island and Khepupara around May 26 midnight as a severe cyclonic storm.
Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely to prevail over central and adjoining South Bay of Bengal today.
It would become 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph over central Bay of Bengal on May 24 evening which would extend to adjoining areas of North Bay of Bengal with gale wind speed reaching 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph from May 25 morning.
It would further increase, becoming 100-110 kmph gusting to 120 kmph over North Bay of Bengal from Sunday morning and 110-120 kmph gusting to 120 kmph from May 26 evening.
The gale wind speed reaching 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph is likely over adjoining central Bay of Bengal from May 26 morning for subsequent 24 hours.
Squally wind speed reaching 40- 50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely along and off North Odisha coasts from May 25 evening which is likely to increase becoming gale wind speed reaching 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph from morning of May 26 till May 27 morning.
The sea condition will be rough to very rough likely over central and adjoining south Bay of Bengal on May 24 which would become high over central Bay of Bengal on May 25 and 26 high to very high over North Bay of Bengal from May 25 evening till May 27 morning.
MET sources further said thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 KMPH very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Khurda, Pur and Nayagarh.
Meanwhile ,the authority has hoisted distant cautionary signal number 1 in all major ports in the state and advised the fishermen not to venture into South Bay of Bengal & Andaman Sea on Friday, Central Bay of Bengal till May 26 and North Bay of Bengal from May 25 till May 27.
The fishermen out at sea have been advised to return to the coast.
