Mumbai, Oct 9 (UNI) The BSE Sensex on Wednesday slipped 167.71 pts to close negative at 81,467.10 on profit booking by local operators.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) fell 31.20 pts at 24,981.95.
Surging over 500 pts on Tuesday, the Sensex opened on a strong note at 81,954.58, up 320 pts.
During the day it was rallied 685 pts at 82,319.21, days high.
In late trade, it erased earlier gains, and finished at 81,467.10, sliding 167.71 pts from its previous close.
It was registered days low at 81,342.89, sliding 292 pts.
The NSE registered days high and low at 25,234.05 and 24,947.70
pts respectively.
The stocks that dragged the market were FMCG by 1.31 pc, Energy by 0.78 pc and Metal by 0.08 pc.
The Mid cap rose 1.06 pc and Small cap by 1.21 pc.
In 30 scrips, 17 advanced, while 13 declined.
The losers were ITC by 3.08 pc to Rs 492.25, Nestle India Ltd 2.21 pc to Rs 2524.40, Reliance industries by 1.65 pc to Rs 2749.85, Hind Unilever by 1.47 pc to Rs 2775 and L& T by 1.13 pc to Rs 3493.45.
The gainers were Tata Motors by 2.15 pc to Rs 939.65, Tech Mahindra by 1.92 pc to Rs 1659.65, Maruti Suzuki by 1.80 pc to Rs 12,760.85 and SBI by 1.65 pc to Rs 795.
