Secular Govt has no right to hold meet of Hindu devotees: S.J.R. Kumar

Kochi, Aug 15 (UNI) A secular government bound by India’s Constitution has no legal mandate to organise a global gathering exclusively for Hindu devotees, or for followers of any one religion or a specific temple, the Sabarimala Ayyappa Seva Samajam (SASS) has said in response to the CPI(M)-led Left Government’s decision to hold an international meet of Sabarimala Ayyappa devotees in Kerala.
SASS National Chairman S.J.R. Kumar termed the Kerala Government’s decision “illegal, politically motivated, and a threat to the traditions of the Lord Ayyappa temple in Sabarimala.”
“This is not the government’s role. Its duty is to ensure infrastructure, safety, and facilities for pilgrims — not to take over religious platforms for political objectives. Using state machinery for a targeted religious congregation is unconstitutional, inappropriate, and unacceptable,” Kumar said.
