SC to hear Tamil Nadu ADGP’s plea against Madras HC-Directed arrest in abduction case

New Delhi, June 17 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to urgently hear a petition filed by Tamil Nadu Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) H.M. Jayaram challenging a Madras High Court order that had directed his arrest in connection with an alleged abduction case.
The matter is scheduled to be listed before the apex court on Wednesday.
Jayaram’s petition comes in the wake of a directive issued by Justice P. Velmurugan of the Madras High Court, while hearing an anticipatory bail plea filed by KV Kuppam MLA "Poovai" Jagan Moorthy, also named in the case.

Cong welcomes SC order on SIR, accuses BJP of spreading disinformation, distorting facts

New Delhi, July 12 (UNI) In an effort to counter what it called as "disinformation and distortion" by the BJP regarding the Supreme Court order on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, the Congress today said it was satisfied with the ruling, noting that the court had directed the Election Commission of India (ECI) to accept the Aadhaar card, voter card and ration card as valid proof of identity.
Moreover, the party clarified that it "never pressed" for the stay of the SIR.
