SC closes contempt case against Baba Ramdev

New Delhi, Aug 13 (UNI)) The Supreme Court on Tuesday closed the contempt matter against Yoga guru and Patanjali Ayurved founder Baba Ramdev and the company's Managing Director (MD) Acharya Balakrishna in the misleading advertisements case.

A Bench comprising Justice Hima Kohli and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah, while accepting the unconditional apology tendered by them, discharged the Contempt Notices issued and closed the contempt proceedings against the duo,

The Court also warned them not to violate its orders in future.

Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balkishan were accused of advertising, branding some of the products manufactured and marketed by their company that were meant to address the ailments/diseases/conditions prohibited under the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act 1954 and the Rules.

The Apex Court asked the company to pull down advertisements.

The Apex Court on February 27, after seeing that the “misleading” advertisements were still being issued by the company, came down heavily on Patanjali Ayurved.

On April 16, the Court granted Ramdev, Balkrishna and Patanjali one week’s time to issue a public apology.

The Court had also pulled up the Uttarakhand State Licensing Authority for not taking action against Patanjali Ayurved for publishing 'misleading advertisements'.
