Sarma warns of illegal infiltration threat to Northeast security and demographics

Agartala, Jan 16 (UNI) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday highlighted the ongoing threat of illegal infiltration and its impact on the security and demographic stability of the Northeast.
Mentioning the Northeastern states, the Chief Minister said, "Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, and Mizoram share extensive borders with Bangladesh, making them susceptible to cross-border infiltration due to political turmoil in Bangladesh." He also asserted that the Northeastern state governments have been doing their best to prevent such attempts, while neighboring West Bengal, he claimed, takes the opposite stance toward Bangladeshi nationals.
Sarma arrived in Tripura on Thursday evening and visited the Tripureswari Temple in Udaipur to offer prayers. During his stay, he held a high-level discussion over dinner with Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and interacted with several BJP leaders and state ministers.
