Sanjay Raut launches sharp attack on BJP over Mumbai mayoral race, predicts "real excitement" in Maha politics

Mumbai, Jan 18 (UNI) Mumbai’s political climate has heated up amid the upcoming contest for the mayor’s post in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), with Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Monday launching a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Addressing the media in Mumbai, Raut said that the day the BJP installs its mayor in Mumbai, the city would be “submerged in mourning”, using strong words to underline his party’s opposition. While reacting to Modi’s recent speech in Mumbai, in which the Prime Minister spoke about ensuring a BJP mayor in the city, Raut claimed that those drafting the speech lacked an understanding of history. He asserted that Mumbai has belonged to the Shiv Sena and would continue to do so, adding that the electoral numbers given by voters do not indicate a BJP victory. According to him, the Prime Minister now needs to engage in self-reflection.
Raut also alleged that political manoeuvring around councillors was intensifying. He claimed that the margin in the numbers had narrowed to a difference of four and suggested that even the BJP might soon shift its councillors to hotels, adding, “let us see what happens”. His remarks came amid ongoing discussions about parties housing elected representatives in hotels to prevent defections.
