Samajwadi Party's Abu Azmi slams Nitish Kumar over Hijab removal, asks him to apologise

Mumbai, Dec 16 (UNI) Samajwadi Party Maharashtra unit president Abu Azmi on Tuesday strongly criticised Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over an incident in which he was seen pulling down the hijab of a Muslim woman doctor during an official function in Patna, and demanded a public apology from him.
Reacting to a video of the incident that has gone viral on social media, Azmi said he was deeply saddened by the Chief Minister’s conduct. He stated that such behaviour from a senior political leader who has served multiple terms as Chief Minister was unacceptable and disrespectful towards a woman.
Azmi said wearing a hijab or burqa is a personal choice and forcibly removing it sends a wrong and hurtful message to the Muslim community. He alleged that such actions undermine the dignity of Muslim women and convey the impression that their religious identity can be disregarded.
