Sadhguru flags soil crisis at Sankranti

Bengaluru, Jan 15 (UNI) "Farming has always been backbreaking work. Today it’s become heart-breaking." With this stark observation, spiritual leader and environmental advocate Sadhguru set the tone for an urgent appeal on India’s deepening agrarian and soil crisis during the Makara Sankranti celebrations at Sadhguru Sannidhi Bengaluru on January 14, a release stated on Thursday.
Addressing thousands of devotees and visitors, Sadhguru said the emotional despair visible among farmers today was a direct outcome of degraded soil health and declining agricultural viability. While farming had historically demanded physical endurance, he said the erosion of soil organic content and ecological balance had made agriculture economically unsustainable, pushing cultivators into distress and uncertainty.
“The soil has been exhausted, and with that, the farmer’s hope is being exhausted,” Sadhguru remarked, stressing that unless soil regeneration became a national priority, food security and rural livelihoods would remain under severe threat. He underlined that agriculture must become a viable and dignified profession if future generations were to remain connected to the land.
