Russia renews demand for total Ukrainian withdrawal from Donbass as talks with US open in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, Jan 23 (UNI) Renewing Moscow's conditions for reaching a settlement with Kyiv, Russia has demanded that Ukrainian security forces must immediately withdraw from Donbass, said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Friday, calling Ukraine's withdrawal from the region a core, and non-negotiable condition.
"Russia's position is well known: Ukraine and its armed forces must leave Donbass. They must be withdrawn. This is a very important condition," Peskov told reporters, adding that the region had suffered extensive damage during the fighting between the two sides.
Declining to provide details of the negotiating framework currently under works, Peskov said that Moscow at this point did not consider it an appropriate time to publicly outline the proposals or settlement formulas under consideration.
