Rule 21 of HP TCP Act to be enforced strictly for multi-storey buildings: Dharmani

Shimla, Dec 13 (UNI) In view of the rising incidents of landslides, sinking of foundations and structural failures of buildings, Town and Country Planning (TCP) Minister Rajesh Dharmani has directed strict implementation of Rule 21 of the Himachal Pradesh Town and Country Planning Act before granting permission for three- to five-storey buildings in the state.
Interacting with senior TCP officers on Friday, the minister expressed serious concern over the vulnerability of Himachal Pradesh and the Tricity area of Chandigarh, which have been placed in Seismic Zone-VI by the Bureau of Indian Standards.
He said that unscientific construction and lax enforcement of building norms were aggravating risks in the fragile hill ecology, leading to frequent cases of landslides, caving-in of foundations and grounding of multi-storey structures.
