RTI activists arrested on charges of extortion

Kolhapur, Jun 24 (UNI) Local Crime Branch (LCB) police team on Tuesday arrested a Right to Information(RTI) activist and his colleagues on charges of demanding Rs 20 lakh as extortion from a medical equipment supplier.
The case pertains to Kagal near Laxmi Tekadi on the Pune- Bangalore national highway.
According to LCB press release, RTI activist Jayraj Bhimrao Koli had booked complaints against Ajinkya Patil, a supplier of medical equipment to Chhatrapati Pramila Raje civil hospital. Patil was subsequently arrested.

Mumbai Jan 16 (UNI) In a surprise development, Shrikant Pangarkar, an accused in the sensational murder of journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh and the Nalasopara arms-ammunition haul case, has won the elections to the Jalna Municipal Corporation (JMC) as an Independent candidate a development that evoked strong reactions.
Pangarkar contested from Ward 13 of the JMC, where he faced the BJP; however, the Shiv Sena, led by deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde, which contested separately in Jalna, did not field any candidate in this seat.

MLC Satej Patil suffers setback in prestigious Ward No 9 contest

Kolhapur, Jan 16 (UNI) Congress MLC Satej Patil suffered a major setback in the prestigious Ward No. 9 contest, where his former close associate Sharangdhar Deshmukh of the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) defeated Congress candidate Rahul Mane by a margin of over 3,000 votes.
