Rohit Sharma roars to No 2 in IPL run list

Rohit Sharma roars to No 2 in IPL run list

Mumbai, Apr 20 (UNI) Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma added another feather to his glittering cap as he surged past Shikhar Dhawan to become the second-highest run-scorer in IPL history, powering MI to a commanding 9-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium here on Sunday.
Rohit, who now has 6786 runs, trails only Virat Kohli (8326) in the all-time list, overtaking Dhawan (6769), and distancing himself from fellow greats David Warner (6565) and Suresh Raina (5528). His unbeaten knock in Sunday’s run chase reaffirmed his status as one of the league’s most enduring match-winners.
The 37-year-old opener also equalled a long-standing record for the most 50-plus scores against CSK in IPL history (9) — joining an elite list alongside Kohli, Dhawan, and Warner. His fluency at the top helped Mumbai overhaul CSK’s total with ease, reaffirming his mastery in high-stakes clashes.
Rohit’s innings was further bolstered by an unbroken 114-run stand for the second wicket with Suryakumar Yadav, the fourth-highest partnership for MI against CSK. This was also the third 100-plus stand Rohit has been part of in this fixture, having earlier combined with Sachin Tendulkar (126 in 2012) and Lendl Simmons (119 in 2015).
The emphatic victory marked MI’s third-biggest win against CSK by wickets, following the 10-wicket drubbing in Sharjah (2020) and a 9-wicket rout at Wankhede in 2008.
With this clinical triumph, Mumbai Indians sent a strong message to the rest of the pack, fuelled by the enduring brilliance of their captain. UNI BDN SSP
