Restoration of statehood to J&K challenge : Omar Abdullah

Srinagar, Oct 14 (UNI) National Conference Vice-President Omar Abdullah on Monday said the holding of elections was a challenge and to restore the statehood to Jammu and Kashmir is another challenge for him.

The Chief Minister designated Omar made these revelations before the delegations of the party who visited him at his Gupkar residence on Monday, a party statement said.

“Our struggle is long, holding the election was a challenge before us and then achieving success in it was also a big challenge," Omar told workers.

As the President's rule has ended in Jammu and Kashmir today, the National Conference leader Omar is likely to take oath of office as Chief Minister of the Union Territory on Wednesday.

“Before us, the challenges of restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and then restoring the constitutional and democratic rights of the people here remain," Omar said.

Omar urged the leaders, officials and workers associated with the party to maintain close contact with the people at the ground level and highlight the problems of the people at all levels.

He said, "Our success has been ensured by the valuable votes of the people and to provide relief to the people should be our first priority."

“National Conference has formulated a plan of action for the next 5 years and has put an organized manifesto before the public and we will try our best to bring awareness to it," he said.
