RCom Executives Held by CBI in ₹19,000 Crore Banking Fraud Probe

New Delhi, Apr 20 (UNI) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday said that it has arrested two senior executives, D. Vishwanath and Anil Kalya, of Reliance Communications (RCom), a company controlled by Anil D. Ambani.
The CBI had registered a Regular Case against Reliance Communications Limited, Anil D. Ambani, and other unknown persons on a complaint filed by the State Bank of India (SBI). The complaint alleged that the bank had sanctioned credit facilities to the accused company, but due to fraudulent activities by the borrowers, the bank suffered a wrongful loss of around Rs 2,929.05 crore.
As per the complaint filed by SBI, a total wrongful loss of Rs 19,694.33 crore has been caused to 17 public sector banks and financial institutions. Investigation so far has revealed that RCom entered into circuitous transactions through shell entities controlled by company officials. It also allegedly got discounted Letters of Credit (LCs) opened for bogus service-related transactions with its group entities, which later devolved, causing significant losses to the banks.
