RCB stampede: Karnataka HC appoints senior advocate as Amicus Curie

Bengaluru, June 23 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court on Monday appointed Senior Advocate S Susheela as amicus curiae in the suo motu proceedings taken up in connection with the June 4 stampede at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium, which claimed 11 lives and injured 56 others.
A Division Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice V Kameswar Rao and Justice CM Joshi directed that sealed status reports and all related documents be handed over to the amicus. The court further requested her assistance in deciding whether the state’s report should remain confidential, be made public, or shared selectively with involved parties. The next hearing is scheduled for July 1.
Advocate General Shashi Kiran Shetty, representing the state, submitted that the report contains sensitive preliminary findings that may impact ongoing magisterial and judicial inquiries. He urged that the reports remain sealed for now. However, several intervenors have sought the documents be made public, arguing that transparency is essential for accountability.
