Ravneet Singh Bittu defends ban on ‘Sutlej’, says objection is to alleged misrepresentation, not Jaswant Singh Khalra’s Legacy

New Delhi, Jul 13 (UNI) Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries Ravneet Singh Bittu on Monday defended the government’s decision to oppose the release of the film Sutlej, asserting that the objection was not directed against human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra or his legacy but against what he described as “false narratives” and factual inaccuracies portrayed in the film.
Addressing a press conference on the controversy surrounding the film on Monday, Bittu said attempts were being made repeatedly to create divisions in Punjab by projecting misleading narratives about the state’s past. He stressed that the government’s stand was aimed at protecting Punjab’s social harmony and preserving the long-standing bond between Hindus and Sikhs.
Highlighting the shared cultural and religious traditions of the two communities, the Minister said, “Do rang Guru da – ek Hola, ek Holi,” referring to the common heritage that binds Punjab’s communities together.
