Rain likely to bring relief as Himachal reel under intense heat

Shimla, May 21 (UNI) After days of intense heat and unusually high temperatures across Himachal Pradesh, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall in parts of the state over the next two days, offering the possibility of temporary relief from the prevailing heatwave-like conditions.
Una remained the hottest place in the state on Thursday, with the mercury soaring to 44.3 degrees Celsius. Bilaspur recorded 41 degrees Celsius, Sundernagar 39.9, Mandi 38.8, Kangra 38.4, and Nahan 38.7, while Dharamshala and Solan recorded 36 degrees Celsius each. Even traditionally cooler tourist destinations such as Shimla and Manali witnessed unusually high temperatures, with Shimla recording 30.5 degrees Celsius.
According to the Meteorological Centre in Shimla, isolated areas in the plains, mid-hills, and higher reaches are likely to receive light to moderate rain on May 22 and 23. The higher mountain regions may also witness light snowfall during this period.
