Punjab : SGPC Chief Dhami resigns

Chandigarh, Feb 17 (UNI) Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) Chief Harjinder Singh Dhami on Monday resigned from his post.
Addressing a press conference here, Advocate Dhami said that he was committed to Akal Takht and requested to relieve him from the seven-member committee of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
He has submitted his resignation to the executive committee of SGPG.
Dhami mentioned the Facebook post of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh and said that he personally takes the responsibility and resigns as SGPC President as a respect to Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
A couple of days back, Jathedar Raghbir Singh, in his post, had criticised the removal of Damdama Sahib Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh.
Meanwhile, Giani Harpreet Singh, while commenting on Advocate Dhami's resignation said that the resignation of the latter was heartbreaking. He alleged that some leaders within Shiromani Akali Dal, driven by personal ambitions, were manipulating Panthic institutions to serve individual politics.
Those who stand for Panthic ideology were being humiliated or forced out, he said.
