Punjab police bust cross-border drug cartel operated by woman kingpin

Chandigarh, Mar 23 (UNI) In a significant breakthrough, Punjab police bust a cross-border drug cartel operated by a woman kingpin along with two other operatives providing logistical assistance and recovered 5.2 Kg Heroin in Amritsar, the state's top cop said on Sunday.State Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said the cops identified the accused as Mandeep Kaur of village Ibban Kalan, Alam Arora of Janta Colony Chheharta and Manmeet alias Golu of Janta Colony Chheharta Amritsar.He said preliminary investigation revealed Mandeep Kaur was in a relationship with a person who introduced her to Pak-based smugglers.Police said she was trying to impersonate a police officer on a few occasions by wearing a uniform to carry out nefarious activities. Her ancestral house is in Khalra, Tarn Taran district, close to the international border with Pakistan.
An FIR has been registered under the NDPS Act at P.S Chheharta. Further investigation is on to unveil the forward and backward linkages. UNI GS SSP
