Punjab: Jakhar seeks High Court–monitored probe into drug money trail

Chandigarh, Dec 9 (UNI) Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar has written a sharply worded letter to Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, urging the state government to initiate a court-monitored investigation into what he describes as the "real engine" driving Punjab's drug crisis, the money trail behind the illegal trade. He has demanded that the probe be supervised directly by the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Jakhar said the roots of Punjab's drug network lie not merely in addiction or street-level supply, but in the financial chain that extends upward to influential beneficiaries who, according to him, have remained untouched. Arresting addicts or small-time peddlers, he argued, would not dismantle the broader criminal economy unless investigators "follow the money."
In his letter, the BJP leader warned that the state's inability to reach the "big fish" raises serious concerns about political and administrative shielding. He asserted that several leaders who once lived modest lifestyles now possess luxurious vehicles and sprawling farmhouses, wealth that, he suggested, warrants scrutiny.
