Punjab Govt requests Centre to issue coins honouring freedom fighters

Chandigarh, Apr 27 (UNI) Punjab Freedom Fighters Minister Mohinder Bhagat on Sunday said Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a letter that the Centre should issue commemorative coins in honour of the brave sons from the state who made the supreme sacrifice during India’s struggle for independence.
Bhagat said the Chief Minister’s missive underscores Punjab's immense contribution to the country’s freedom movement with the sagas of legends like Shaheed-E-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Sukhdev, Shaheed Rajguru, Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha, Shaheed Lala Lajpat Rai and Shaheed Udham Singh etched forever in the annals of Indian history.
He said by bringing out commemorative coins in their memory, the government will not only honour their sacrifices, but also play a vital role in preserving their lasting educational legacy for the younger generations.
