Punjab govt launches Universal Health Coverage Scheme offering Rs 10 Lakh coverage

New Delhi/Mohali, Jan 22 (UNI) The Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab launched the ‘Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna’ on Thursday, a health insurance scheme that promises free treatment coverage of up to Rs 10 lakh per family at empaneled public and private hospitals.
The scheme was inaugurated in Mohali by AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, who handed out health cards to initial beneficiaries. The government states the scheme is universal, with no income criteria, and is intended for all of Punjab’s approximately 65 lakh families.
During the launch event, Arvind Kejriwal described the day as historic and stated the initiative fulfills a key electoral promise. He contrasted the current administration’s efforts with previous governments, claiming that over 1,000 ‘Aam Aadmi Clinics’ have been established in four years, with plans for 2,500 village-based ‘Pind Clinics’.
