Punjab govt approves Punjab Cricket League to steer youth away from drugs through sports

Chandigarh, Feb 9 (UNI) In a significant move to rejuvenate the sporting heritage of the state and combat the drug menace, the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government today officially approved the launch of the Punjab Cricket League (PCL).
Envisioned as a strategic intervention for youth empowerment, the league aims to transform sports from a mere outreach activity into a robust platform for professional growth and national representation.
The Punjab Cricket League will be modeled after the Indian Premier League (IPL) and will feature teams representing various districts and geographical regions, including Majha, Doaba, and Malwa. To ensure professional standards, the state government will coordinate closely with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA). The primary objective is to establish a comprehensive ecosystem that identifies, nurtures, and transitions budding talent onto the professional stage.
