Punjab Budget 2026–27 historic, focused on social justice and inclusive growth: Ravjot Singh

Chandigarh, March 9 (UNI) Punjab’s Minister for NRI Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, Dr Ravjot Singh, on Monday characterized the state budget for 2026-27 as a historic and generous document aimed at fostering social justice and sustainable economic progress.
Participating in the budget discussion during the ongoing session of the Punjab Legislative Assembly, Singh asserted that the fiscal plan, presented under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, serves as a comprehensive roadmap for building an equitable society dedicated to the welfare of all citizens.
During his address, Singh invoked the spiritual teachings of Shri Guru Ravidas Ji, particularly the concept of 'Begumpura,' a society defined by the absence of sorrow and inequality. He stated that these ideals continue to inspire the state government's governance model, which prioritizes compassion and inclusivity.

Shopkeeper shot at in Rohtak, critical after bullet pierces neck and cheek

Chandigarh, April 11 (UNI) A shopkeeper was left critically injured on Saturday morning after an unidentified assailant opened fire at him inside his store in Rohtak, Haryana, police said.
The victim, identified as Praveen, runs a cement and iron rod business under the name Rajlakshmi Cement-Sariya on Gohana Road. He was shot at point-blank range around 9:30 am.
