Pulse production in UP surged by nearly two and half times

Lucknow, May 20 (UNI) In a step towards being self-sufficient, Uttar Pradesh state has seen a significant rise in the production and cultivation area of essential crops, including pulses and oilseeds, official sources said here on Tuesday.
Sources said that this progress paves the way for price stability in the years ahead, ensuring that rising costs neither push pulses out of the common man's plate nor reduce the availability of edible oil in the kitchen.
Sources said that data from the past eight years shows the impact. "According to government records, pulse production increased by nearly two and a half times, from 23.95 lakh metric tons in 2016–17 to 35.18 lakh metric tons in 2024–25. Oilseed production rose by around one and a half times, from 12.40 lakh metric tons to 29.20 lakh metric tons in the same period," they said.
