Probe international smuggling links in Sabarimala gold-loot case: Chennithala

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 7 (UNI) Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Ramesh Chennithala on Sunday urged the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the sensational Sabarimala gold-loot case to investigate suspected links to international antiquities smuggling networks.
In a detailed letter submitted to Additional Director General of Police Venkatesh, who heads the SIT, Chennithala called for expanding the scope of the probe beyond the arrested suspects, warning that the theft may be part of a “larger criminal syndicate” operating across borders.
Chennithala said he had received credible information from an individual with direct exposure to global antiquities trafficking networks, suggesting that the missing gold sheets from the Sabarimala Lord Ayyappa temple could have been channelled into the international black market, potentially valued at nearly ₹500 crore.
