Private vehicles issued government-only registration numbers in Rampur; ARTO suspended, registrations cancelled

Lucknow, Sep 14 (UNI) The Transport Commissioner, Brajesh Narayan Singh, has recommended the suspension of Rampur ARTO (Administration), Rajesh Kumar Srivastava, and initiated departmental proceedings for major penalty.
The action was taken after an enquiry revealed that private vehicles in Rampur were found to have been issued registration numbers from the 'UP22BG' series, reserved exclusively for government vehicles under the Uttar Pradesh Motor Vehicle Rules, 1998.
An official investigation was launched on September 10, following reports that the UP22BG registration series, specifically meant for government vehicles, was wrongly assigned to private vehicles. The investigation report, submitted on September 12, revealed that the illegal allocations took place between April 27, 2025, and August 12, 2025. During this time, the correct private vehicle series, UP22BH, had already been introduced.
