Pressure on constitutional institutions increasing: Deepankar

Darbhanga, 16 May (UNI) Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation General Secretary Deepankar Bhattacharya today alleged that pressure from those in power on constitutional institutions is steadily increasing in the country.
Addressing a seminar on the theme “Democracy under Bulldozer Rule” during the inauguration of the party’s 12th three-day state conference at Polo Ground Hall in Laheriasarai, Bhattacharya said that the country is witnessing a shift from good governance to what he termed “bulldozer politics,” and called upon people to wage a “new struggle for freedom” to safeguard democratic values. He alleged that democratic processes are being influenced through practices such as special intensive revision (SIR) of voter lists in West Bengal and the use of money power during elections in Bihar.
Targeting the Centre, he accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of shifting the burden of economic distress onto the poor in the name of nationalism, while attributing the crisis to government policies. He also referred to movements by workers, farmers, students, and anti CAA protests, stating that the INDIA alliance has emerged from such grassroots struggles and that democratic forces must unite to intensify their fight.
