President’s rule imposed in Manipur, Assembly under suspended animation

Imphal, Feb 13 (UNI) The Central government on Thursday imposed President’s rule in trouble-torn Manipur by keeping the northeastern state's Assembly under suspended animation, four days after N. Biren Singh resigned as chief minister.
A notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs said the President of India, Draupadi Murmu, has received a report from the state Governor and after considering the report and other information received, she was satisfied that a situation has arisen in which the Government of that state cannot be carried on in accordance with the provisions of the country's Constitution.
In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 356 of the Constitution, and of all other powers, the President proclaimed that all functions of the Government of the State of Manipur and all powers vested in or exercisable by the Governor of that State, powers of the Legislature of the said State shall be exercisable by or under the authority of Parliament, said the notification.
