Poor air grips Mumbai, raising health concerns

Mumbai, Dec 16 (UNI) Mumbai woke up to hazy skies on Tuesday morning as air quality across the city continued to remain in the poor category of monitoring platform, despite a forecast of clear and comfortable winter weather.
A layer of smog was visible over several parts of the city shortly after daybreak, leading to reduced visibility and a noticeable acrid smell in many areas. Early morning commuters, walkers and schoolchildren reported discomfort, particularly in low-lying and high-traffic zones.
According to data from air quality monitoring platform AQI.in, Mumbai’s overall Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 163 during the early hours, placing it firmly in the ‘poor’ category. While this marked a marginal improvement compared to the severe pollution levels recorded in late November, experts cautioned that the air quality remains unhealthy, especially for children, senior citizens and those with respiratory or cardiac ailments.
