Political party leaders meet CA Md Yunus post Osman Haidi shooting, call for political unity

Dhaka, Dec 13 (UNI) Rattled by the shooting of prominent July Uprising figure Sharif Osman Haidi, political party leaders in Bangladesh held a joint meeting with Chief Advisor Md Yunus where they deplored the act, and drew attention to the urgent need for establishing unity amongst each other, regardless of their political stances in order to protect national interests.
Spokesperson of the right-wing social organisation Inqilab Moncho, Hadi, a prominent member of the July Uprising is noted for his vitriolic statements against India and the now-ousted Awami League. He was running as an independent MP candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency, prior to his shooting on Friday afternoon. He suffered critical injuries in the shooting, and is on life support in a Dhaka hospital.
In sharply worded statements condemning the attack, the political parties at the meeting on Saturday reaffirmed their commitment for maintaining a united front in order to fend off any attempts geared towards "maligning" the Awami League government's overthrow in August 2024, or "sabotage" the fruits borne by it.
