Police probing others' role in ex-DGP murder case

Bengaluru, April 22 (UNI) Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda on Tuesday said investigations are ongoing to determine whether anyone else was involved in the murder of former Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) Om Prakash.
Speaking to media, the Commissioner said a case of murder has been registered based on a complaint filed by the deceased officer’s son, Karthikesh, who has named his mother Pallavi and sister Kriti as suspects.
"Based on forensic findings, circumstantial evidence, and evaluation of the crime scene, the deceased’s wife Pallavi has been arrested," Dayananda stated. "Further inquiries are underway to verify if additional persons were involved."
The murder, which occurred on Sunday at the family’s residence in HSR Layout, has since been transferred to the Central Crime Branch (CCB) for a thorough investigation.
According to the FIR registered under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, 2023, both Pallavi and Kriti have been booked for murder. Police sources said a quarrel broke out between Om Prakash and Pallavi during lunch, which escalated into a violent attack. Pallavi allegedly stabbed her husband multiple times with a kitchen knife and struck him with a glass bottle.
Shortly after the incident, Pallavi reportedly called a friend — the wife of a retired IPS officer — and claimed she had “finally killed the monster.” The friend immediately alerted the police.
Kriti, who was at home during the incident, was detained and questioned but has not been arrested as yet. Pallavi was taken to the crime scene before being produced before a magistrate who remanded her in judicial custody.
In his complaint, Karthikesh claimed that both his mother and sister had a history of depression and were often involved in arguments with his father. He further alleged that Pallavi had issued death threats, which had compelled Om Prakash to stay at his sister Sarita Kumari’s house. On April 18, Kriti had reportedly brought him back home.
The murder came to light on April 20, when a neighbour informed Karthikesh, who was away to work in Domlur, of the incident. When he rushed home, he found his father lying dead, with stab wounds, and police already present.
The funeral of the retired DGP was held at the Wilson Garden electric crematorium on Monday.
