Jammu, May 26 (UNI) Police on Sunday foiled an alleged narcotics smuggling bid by recovering over 300 kg ‘poppy straw’ from possession of two interstate narcotics smugglers at Jakhani, along Jammu-Srinagar national highway, in Udhampur district.
During routine 'naka' checking (checkpoint), a mini truck with Punjab registration numberplate was intercepted, which was on its way from Srinagar towards Udhampur, police said.
During search of the vehicle, 320 kg of poppy straw was recovered and both the people were arrested and the vehicle was seized.
The arrested accused were identified as Dinesh Kumar and Rajinder Sharma, both residents of Giraward, Haryana.
A case has been registered and investigation started, sources added.
