Police entering woman’s bedroom without legal procedure violated privacy, dignity: HC

Nagpur, July 13 (UNI): The Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court has held that the unauthorised entry of police personnel into a woman’s bedroom and seizure of her mobile phone without following due legal procedure amounted to a serious violation of her privacy and dignity.
A division bench comprising Justices Urmila Joshi Phalke and Nivedita Mehta directed the Maharashtra government to pay Rs 10,000 as compensation to the 26-year-old woman from Saoner in Nagpur district within two months.
The court also observed that the state government would be at liberty to recover the amount from the police officer responsible for the illegal action.
