PM Modi receives UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at Delhi airport

New Delhi, Jan 19 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi received Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, at Delhi airport on Monday, marking the start of his official visit to India.
This is Sheikh Mohamed’s third official visit to India since assuming office as President of the UAE, and his fifth visit to the country over the past decade.
The visit builds on the strong momentum from recent high-level exchanges between the two nations, including the visit of Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, in September 2024, and Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Crown Prince of Dubai, in April 2025.
India and the UAE share warm, multi-faceted relations underpinned by strong political, cultural, and economic ties.
The countries are major trading and investment partners, strengthened by the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), the Local Currency Settlement (LCS) system, and the Bilateral Investment Treaty. They also maintain a robust energy partnership, including long-term energy supply arrangements.
During the visit, both leaders are expected to sign agreements covering investments in special economic zones, food security, and nuclear cooperation.
The discussions are also likely to focus on regional developments in West Asia, including the ongoing instability in Gaza, the unresolved conflict in Yemen involving Saudi Arabia and the UAE, and the strained Iran-US relations.
The visit will provide an opportunity for the two leaders to chart new frontiers for the India–UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. It will also enable an exchange of views on regional and global issues of mutual interest, where India and the UAE share a high degree of convergence.

Sheikh Mohamed’s visit coincides with a critical period in West Asia, as US President Donald Trump launched Phase 2 of the Gaza Peace Plan, aimed at establishing a National Committee for Gaza’s administration.
