PM Modi congratulates new Japanese PM Shigeru Ishiba

New Delhi, Oct 2 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated Japan’s new Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and said he looks forward to working closely with him to further strengthen the bilateral strategic partnership to promote peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific and beyond.
In a post on X, the PM said:
“Heartiest congratulations PM @shigeruishiba. I look forward to working closely with you to further strengthen India-Japan Special Strategic & Global Partnership and promote peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific and beyond.”
On Tuesday afternoon, Japan's Liberal Democratic Party President Shigeru Ishiba was elected as the 102nd Prime Minister of Japan as a result of prime ministerial nomination elections held at the plenary sessions of both chambers of the Diet.
The 67-year-old former defence minister last week won a close-fought contest to lead the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).
Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba said he would seek deeper ties with friendly nations to counter the gravest security threats his country has faced since World War Two.
He has also proposed creating an Asian version of the collective security group NATO to deter China.
