PM Modi arrives in Alberta for G7 Summit, says will emphasise priorities of Global South

Alberta, June 17 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived today in Calgary, to participate in the G7 Summit, being hosted by Canada. The PM said he will be meeting with world leaders at the Summit and also emphasise the priorities of the Global South.
In a post on X, the PM said:
“Landed in Calgary, Canada, to take part in the G7 Summit. Will be meeting various leaders at the Summit and sharing my thoughts on important global issues. Will also be emphasising the priorities of the Global South.”
He will participate in G7 discussions on energy security, infrastructure and investment among other issues.
The MEA spokesperson said in a post on X:
“At the invitation of PM @MarkJCarney, PM @narendramodi
arrives in Alberta, Canada for the G7 Summit.
“PM will be participating in @G7 discussions on the future of energy security, including diversification, technology, infrastructure and investment, to ensure access and affordability in a changing world.
“PM will also hold several bilateral meetings on the sidelines.”
Notably, PM Modi arrived in Canada after his two-day visit to Cyprus.
The world leaders attending the G7 Summit include US President Donald Trump, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen is also attending.
The special invitees to the summit include Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Brazilian President Lula da Silva and Presidents of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, South Korea Lee Jae-myung, South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelenskyy and UAE’s Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Canada assumed presidency of the G7 on January 1, 2025, for the seventh time. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the G7 Summit.
